The Ant and the Grasshopper
Do you think the message in Maugham's story is the same as or different from the message in the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper?
In the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper described that the ant succeed to spend great time in winter because the ant was hard-working, and the grasshopper who just took the rest in summar at all did not have food in winter. However, Maugham's story explained that Tom who was like the grasshopper and an attractive person had a chance to live a great life even though he was lazy and spent a lot of money. On the other hand, George was a serious person, and he respected others. Moreover, he saved the money like the ant, but he could not be happy in the end of the story because Tom had a marriage with an old women, and he received all of her money after the old woman died. In my opinion, the message in Muagham's story is different from the message in the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper because the Aesop's fable and Muagham's story had a different result, and I realized that people who enjoyed their lives when they were young could be more successful than other people who concentrate to only work in the future.

"As It Was in the Beginning" Question Number 3.
"As It Was in the Beginning"
Question Number 3. How did Father Paul convince Laurence? Do you gree with Father Paul's reasons?
According to the article"As It Was in the Beginning" was about homesickness, and discrimination. Laurence who wanted to marry Esther talked about his possibility marriage to Father Paul, and Esther heard that Faher Paul and Laurence's conversation. Father Paul convinced that he disagree about the marriage because he said that Esther had red skin and half-breed.
I strongly disagree with Father Paul what he said because people must not discriminate against anyone based on race or religion, and people should receive an equal treatment even though they have different skin and mixed-blood. In my opinion, At that time, there were not many mixed-blood peole in the Western world, so Father Paul would have discrimminated against Esther. However, nowadays, it is impossible to do discrimination. Esther was not treated as a person and a woman. I do not have about a discrimination experience, but if I were a victim of racism, I might be really upset. Moreover, Esther felt a homesick, so she might be so lonely and easy to get hurt from Father Paul's saying. Father Paul tried to make Laurence believe that Esther was not a good person to get married becasue she was red skin and half bleed, so Laurence changed his mind.

3. Choose a couple you know well. How successful is thier relationship? Use birth-order theory to explain and support your observations about their relationship.
When I read Withers's article, the article was convinced, but I believe that the article which Withers explained about the good matches for people's birth order is unscientific. It is possible to people's good matches. However, it can not be a fact, and it would depend on people's own characters. For example, I know about a couple who are my sister and her fiance are the oldest child in the family. In the article, Wither explained that the oldest children sould meet people who are youngest in the family for couples, but my older sister and her fiance are seeing for five years, and they will get married soon even though they are the oldest child in the family. Of course, my older sister and her fiance are parental and responsible to me and my younger sister. Therefore, they have a lot in common. That's why they are seeing for a long time and engaged. In my opinion, it does not matter to care about people who are good matches with them in the birth order when people meet others seriously.

How accurate is Lucile K Forer's desccription of your birth order?
How
accurate is Lucile K Forer's description of your birth order?
The article " How Your Birth Order Influences Your Life Adjustment" by Lucile K. Forer described about the birth order. When I read it, I gained the sympathy with this article. It was quite similar to my sisters and me.
In this article, the first child becomes parental and may not have many opportunities to spend time with his parents after he has a sibling because his sibling needs to get more attention than him. It means that the first child makes a concession many things to his sibling. For example, my older sister is really responsible to me and my younger sister. When we have problems, my older siser likes listening to our troubles carefully, and she scolds me about my faults instead of my parents.
The article explained that the middle child has many abilities to do something. Moreover, the parents do not worry about the later child as much as the first child. In my case, when my older sister was young, my parents were so conservative. They never permitted my older sister to go the camp and spend time with her friends at late night. However, after I was born my parents did not worry about my sister any more, and they suggested everything what she wanted to do for her hobbies. My parents became open-minded.
I agree with the sentence which the youngest child often relies on the partents from this article. No matter what people say, it is nevertheless the truth in my family. My older sister and I work the part time job when we want to buy something, but my younger sister doesn't save the money, and just spend all of it. Moreover, if she wants to do or get something, my parents always grant her wish. Therefore, she usually can not solve the problems alone, and she needs my parents' help all the time.
I do not know exactly about the only child who becomes independent after he/she grows up, but when I see my friends who are the only children in their family like to spend time alone.
In conclusion, the article said that people have their own characters from the birth order. In my opinion, the birth older characteristics are affected by family size, the environment, and circumstances.

Birth Order
I am a middle child, and I have two sisters. I often think about a middle child's disadvantage because when I was young, my mother gave me the clothes which my sister used to wear few times, but after I grew tall in height my mother did not give older sister's clothes to my younger sister. It was unfair. Moreover, my mother took care of my younger sister so much. That's why my sister became selfish. If my sister wanted to buy something, she must get it. My older sister gives a lot of presents to me and my sister when she has the money, but my younger sister never does it, and she only buys something for herself. Anyhow, I love and miss my two sisters.
